A community-driven scholarship established to honor WHS traditions and invest in the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
For many years, there has been a tradition at Westerly High School that when a class celebrates its 50th Anniversary, that class donates a gift to the school — a granite bench, bulldog statue, or display cabinet. This scholarship fund was created so that any class, or individual, can recognize a milestone with a contribution to this scholarship.
The fund makes annual awards to graduating seniors that live in Westerly, and is designed to last forever.
This fund was established for the sole purpose of providing assistance in the form of educational scholarships to graduating seniors of Westerly High School. Scholarships must be used toward an apprenticeship, technical certification or licensure, associate's or bachelor's degree, or for tools for the trade if entering the workforce directly.
It is the vision of the Fund that Westerly High School Alumni — past and future — take a supporting role in perpetuating the growth of the endowment in years to come.
The WHS Alumni Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a Rhode Island Non-Profit Corporation and has been granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service. All donations are tax deductible. The Fund is managed through the Rhode Island Foundation and administered by the WHS Alumni Scholarship Fund Committee.
Our dedicated committee of Westerly High School alumni oversees all scholarship criteria, award decisions, and fundraising activities.
As of November 2014, the WHS Alumni Scholarship Fund is managed through the Rhode Island Foundation — one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the country.
This partnership ensures that the endowment is professionally managed and that the fund cannot be dissolved, protecting its mission for generations to come.
